US 229998: Explain & perform fall arrest techniques when working at height
For any person working at heights where the possibility of a fall exists, the purpose of this training is to allow learners to follow fall arrest principles to perform work at height.
Training includes:
Explaining the use and limitations of a limited range of fall arrest equipment and fall arrest plan. Include full body harness, helmet, work positioning system, lanyard and energy absorber, shock absorbing lanyard, retractable life-line, permanent life-lines:
Inspecting, assembling and storing fall arrest equipment.
Selecting suitable anchor points.
Using fall arrest systems with a double lanyard.
Using pre-installed vertical and horizontal life-lines
Explain reducing risk during a rescue
Basic rescue
Scaffold Erector
NQF level 3, Credits 5
US 263245: Erect, use, & dismantle access scaffolding
Provides learners with the knowledge and skills required by the industry to function as a scaffold erector, in a access scaffold team.
Training includes:
Interpreting basic drawings and instructions for the erection of access scaffolding.
Coordinating resources for the erection of access scaffolding.
Erecting and using access scaffolding.
Dismantling access scaffolding.
Learning assumed to be in place and recognition of prior learning
Communication at NQF level 2
Mathematical literacy at NQF level 2
Assist to erect, use and dismantle access scaffolding at NQF level 3
Scaffold Inspector
NQF level 4, Credits 6
US 263205: Inspect access scaffolding
Provides the learner with the necessary knowledge and skills to inspect access scaffolding for compliance with the South African National Standards (SANS) 10085, to provide the learner with skills to function as a scaffold Inspector.
Training includes:
Demonstrating an understanding of different types of access scaffolding, applications and compliance.
Explaining the role and responsibilities of the inspector.
Reading and interpreting drawings, client requirements and other specifications.
Inspecting and handing over access scaffolding
Learning assumed to be in place and recognition of prior learning

Erect, use and dismantle access scaffolding at NQF level 3
Fall Protection Plan Developer
NQF level 4, Credits 3
US 229994: Assess a worksite for work at height and prepare a fall protection plan
For people responsible for the safety and protection of people working at height where there is a risk of injury from a fall. The learner will be responsible for the safety of others performing tasks at height. Qualifying learners are able to develop fall protection plans for people working at height, required by the Occupational Health and safety act (Act 85 of 1993). The scope of this unit standard is for any person who needs to draw up fall protection plans for persons performing work at height.
Training includes:
Performing a risk assessment of the worksite where work is to be done at height.
Demonstrating knowledge of fall arrest rescue equipment and advanced fall arrest rescue.
Developing a fall protection plan and fall arrest plan.
Managing safety of personnel working at heights.
